PACS Ltd. Floor Screeding
Floor Screeding Systems:
Listed here are the four main types of screed system formats, ranging from Insulating multilevel screeds to simple and extremely effective bonded screeds.
Bonded Screeds:
Laid on to a ready prepared rough, cleaned concrete base.
Unbonded Screeds:
Laid on to a sound, clean Bitumen damp proof membrane to BS4483
Floating Screed:
Laid with steel or fibre reinforcements on to the insulating board, which in turn can be laid on to a suitable damp proof membrane. Sound, clean prepared base. Laid to BS4483
Resin Bonded Screed:
Laid on to a clean, rough pre-prepared concrete base. The resin acts as a ready installed damp proof membrane to the top screed.
Floor Screeding Solutions:
Sand and Cement Screed
Ready-to-use cement & sand screed is an ideal screed for flooring and roofing applications. It can be used as ground floor slabs (floating foundations), used on suspended floors, as a topping to lightweight screeds based on perlite or other lightweight aggregates and can also be used as a floating construction over insulation to give acoustic or thermal properties.
Features:
- Retarded in order to remain workable for 8-12 hours
- Consistent quality is guaranteed
- Better cement dispersion gives greater and more uniform compressive strength throughout the floor area.
- Pre-mixed provides consistent quality materials and accurate proportioning
Fibre Screed
Fibre screed has been developed to meet the increasing demand for factory-mixed cement:sand screeds of all mix designs incorporating an even dispersion of polypropylene fibres. The presence of suitable fibres can help to give a more cohesive mix and help control cracking caused by intrinsic stresses.
Applications: Fibre screeds are ideally suitable for use in hospitals, offices, superstores, industrial and other applications where there would be a high cost in loss of use through floor failure due to surface cracking of screed. Ideally compatible for use with underfloor heating systems.
Features:
- Advantages over traditional cement:sand screeds:
- Minimum early age shrinkage/cracking
- Improved flexural strength/flexural fatigue resistance
- On many occasions can eliminate the use for wire mesh
- Improved toughness
- Easy to place, compact and overcomes many practical problems when used as an alternative to steel crack control fabric
- Fibres cannot be misplaced
- Better impact/abrasion resistance against site traffic
- Factory mixed to give accurate control and better dispersion of cement and fibres with minimum compressive strengths as specified in BS 4721/4
Polymer Screed
Polymer Screeds have been developed to meet the demand for factory mixed cement:sand screed with the inclusion of a synthetic polymer resin to give increased toughness and bond properties. Polymer screeds are suitable for use on the following bases: Refurbishment work and for thinner, well-bonded screeds over suitable prepared concrete where it is impossible to achieve normal minimum thickness Solid concrete ground floor slabs, Precast concrete units or beams with reinforcement and In-situ suspended floors among others.
Features:
- Advantages over traditional site mixed cement:sand screeds:
- Factory mixed to give accurate dispersion of cement and polymer with minimum compressive strengths as specified in BS 4721/4
- Minimises shrinkage/cracking
- Improves flexural strength
- Reduced permeability
- Better impact/abrasion resistance against site traffic
Improved performance for thinner, bonded screeds where normal minimum thickness cannot be achieved
Epoxy Resin Screeds
Epoxy resin screeds provide a heavy duty, chemical resistant, hard wearing floor surface. Typically applied at a thickness of 4mm - 6mm, an ideal flooring solution in wet and dry process industries which are subject to heavy traffic and light chemical attack. It cures rapidly, giving a heavy duty floor finish with a decorative and excellent abrasive resistance.
